We are thrilled with joy to introduce you to Kennedy Reese, MPP—a powerhouse philanthropic strategist who's joining the Surge Institute to help us amplify the voices, visions, and victories of Black and Brown education leaders across the nation!

The transformation was undeniable. Louis Davis realized his leadership had evolved from potential to power—from T'Challa to the Black Panther. It happened in the quiet revolution at Barton Elementary, where every hallway conversation, family partnership, and teacher coaching session became an act of fierce advocacy for his students.

This October, we celebrate National Principals Month—a time to honor the educational warriors who shape minds, build futures, and refuse to let zip codes determine destinies. These leaders carry forward a legacy of excellence that stretches from historical one-room schoolhouses to today's innovation labs in urban districts nationwide.

Reflecting on the impact of Latinx Heritage Month, Tara Haskins (KC23 and Angels ‘24) responds, “I want people to know that our stories are rich. Our stories are powerful. We have moved, and we will continue to move our country to places that we know it can be.”

During Latinx Heritage Month, we’ve had the opportunity to chat with several Surge Alumni about their experiences with Surge, and how these experiences have informed the work they do in their respective communities. One thing is certain: the creativity, calling, and commitment of these persons reflect the boldness, depth, and innovative leadership of the Latinx Diaspora they represent. This week, we feature Isolda Antonio, BPN ‘24.
