Surge Institute is proud to introduce CHI27: 31 leaders making up the largest Surge Fellowship Chicago cohort in Surge history!
These Fellows lead across schools and districts, nonprofit organizations, higher education, workforce development, philanthropy, advocacy, and community institutions throughout Chicago. They bring different experiences and perspectives, but they share one commitment: building systems where Black and Brown young people, families, and communities can thrive.
Surge is growing its flagship Fellowship Chicago because Chicago needs a larger, connected pipeline of leaders prepared to lead through disruption.
As Executive Director Ulric Shannon shared, “This announcement is more than a list of names. It signals the growth of a powerful network, with leaders stepping forward, stepping together, and stepping into the work with courage, clarity, and conviction.”
This is the moment. This is the movement. This is how Chicago answers the Surge.
Over the next 10 months, CHI27 Fellows will engage in Surge’s signature leadership experience: intentional self-discovery, community building, executive coaching, and the development of Freedom Dreams rooted in the needs and possibilities of their communities.
Chicago’s education ecosystem is growing stronger, more connected, and more courageous. This cohort is ready to lead the way, and we cannot wait for you to meet them.
