The 2026 Surge Academy Philadelphia cohort is already building powerful momentum, and their mid-retreat fireside chat was a true reflection of that energy.
On March 12, the fellows came together for an unforgettable evening centered around the theme “Blueprints for Liberation: Keys to Building Your Freedom Dreams from the Ground Up.” The room was filled with bold ideas, meaningful connections, and conversations that sparked inspiration.
Reflecting on the experience, Andrea Black Evans, Executive Director, Surge Academy, shared:
“The mid-retreat experience in Philadelphia reflected exactly what Surge Academy is designed to do, convene leaders in a space that strengthens practice, sharpens thinking, and moves leadership forward, both individually and for the collective.”
The evening’s dynamic panel brought vision to life, exploring real opportunities within the education system and highlighting proactive, community-centered solutions. Our speakers offered powerful insights and tangible takeaways to fuel the fellows as they begin shaping their Freedom Dreams capstone project.
The speakers were:
- Jerome Shabazz (Panelist)
- Candace Kenyatta (Panelist)
- Sharif El-Mekki (Panelist)
- Dia Jones (Moderator/PHILA25 alum)
This wasn’t just a conversation; it was a catalyst. We can’t wait to see how this cohort keeps redefining what’s possible!
