At the Surge Institute, we believe Black and Brown leaders deserve spaces where they are deeply affirmed and supported both professionally and personally. This belief fuels everything we do, including the work behind organizing the 2027 Surge Academy Detroit, our third cohort in the Motor City.
Jasmine Brooks (DET26) is the Senior Director of Community Hubs at Detroit College Access Network and the Founder of JMB Advising. She graduated from the second Detroit cohort two months ago, and the experience continues to resonate with her daily.
“Surge was a life-changing experience that really can't be summarized with words,” Jasmine says. “It's a feeling. I've never felt more poured into, more affirmed, more supported as a Black leader and educator.”
This is what it means to lead, grow, and thrive in community–and if you are a Detroit educator, this is your opportunity to see firsthand what Jasmine describes.
We’re looking for the next group of Detroit educators who are ready to grow into tomorrow’s leaders. Applications are currently open for the 2027 Surge Academy Detroit.
