Ask any teacher who kept their classroom running through a crisis year, and they'll tell you who often made it possible: the principal down the hall who showed up before sunrise, absorbed every fire, and still found a way to say "you've got this" before first period. That's the job–and life–of a principal: vision, budget, community, safety, and the emotional weight of an entire building.

Each October, National Principals Month honors that leadership nationwide, built by the National Association of Elementary School Principals, the National Association of Secondary School Principals, and the American Federation of School Administrators. It has grown into a recognized national moment, backed by congressional resolutions and state proclamations from coast to coast. Surge Institute is bringing our own charge to that celebration.

Black and Latinx school leaders carry an added layer few outside education ever see: the pressure of representation, the burden of being "the first" or "the only," and the responsibility of showing students what leadership looks like when it looks like them. Surge and our Black Principals Network exist to change the math on that pressure, developing and elevating education leaders of color so no principal has to lead alone.

We invite the Surge community into this month's Black Principals Network poll, built around our four pillars: Community, Restoration, Professional Growth, and Liberation. Your voice shapes the resources, recognition, and support we build for the principals doing this work in real time.

Take the poll. Add your voice. Help us elevate the leaders, elevating everyone else.
