Sustaining the Pipeline: Centering BPN's Four Principles of Practice to Sustain Black School Leaders

Date: Friday, November 21st
Time: 11:20 AM - 12:20 PM

Join the Black Principals Network for an interactive panel conversation exploring what it truly takes to sustain Black principals in today’s educational landscape. This session is grounded in BPN’s four principles of practice (Community, Restoration, Professional Growth, and Liberation), which guide our commitment to retaining, supporting, and uplifting Black school leaders. We will explore how these principles directly respond to the isolation, trauma, and burnout that too often lead to the early departure of Black principals from the profession. Panelists from the 2023, 2024, and 2025 cohorts of The Leadership Collaborative will share real-life experiences, insights, and reflections on what it means to lead while Black and remain whole. Together, we will highlight the brilliance of Black principals and offer actionable strategies rooted in our principles that challenge systemic barriers and cultivate sustainable leadership practices.

Attendees will understand the critical role Black principals play in advancing equity in schools and how BPN’s principle of Community creates a sense of belonging and shared leadership. Attendees will learn practical self-care and wellness strategies aligned with Restoration to address trauma and prevent burnout. Attendees will explore how Professional Growth and Liberation drive development, identity-affirming leadership, and long-term sustainability through coaching, mentorship, and ongoing support.
